The Owensboro Thoroughbreds were unable to come away victorious in their opening playoff game, falling to the Indy Express 122-119.

The Express barely had the edge all night long, using their offensive efficiency to outscore the Thoroughbreds each quarter by a small margin.

Indy expanded on a 28-26 lead after the first quarter, inching their way closer to a victory by sending Owensboro into the locker room trailing 66-62 at halftime.

While the Thoroughbreds cut it close, they were unable to change the lead for a 14th time in the game and fell to the Express in the first of the three-game series.

It was Indy’s marksmanship that seemed to make the difference, as they shot an impressive 13/26 from beyond the arc.

Turnovers were also a crucial factor, as the Express earned 25 points off of turnovers to the Thoroughbreds 18.

The Express had five players finish in double figures, with Joseph Retic II leading all scorers with 27.

Owensboro had seven players finish in double figures, with Darhius Nunn leading the way with 25 points.

The Thoroughbreds will look to bounce back and avoid first-round elimination when they hit the road to take on the Indy Express on Friday, July 2.
