Daviess County Fiscal Court on Thursday celebrated the opening of a “playground for all” at Horse Fork Creek Park, located along Fairview Drive just off KY 54. The inclusive playground is near the fully accessible spray park and an entrance to the Adkisson Greenbelt.

The park includes activities for children of all abilities to play, Judge-Executive Al Mattingly said.

According to County Commissioner Charlie Castlen, the park includes a wheelchair-accessible spin circle, glider with a bounce pad, musical instruments, and lowered and more touch-sensitive activities.

When placing the water park last year, Castlen said they recognized quickly how inaccessible it was to guests and started looking for ways to address that. With the new park, they hope to provide something for everyone.

“Already, we are seeing a lot of young families enjoying the playground and spray park at Horse Fork,” Parks Director Ross Leigh said.

While Mattingly said this will be one of the last capital projects that they will do for a while as they begin maintenance on other parks, there will be additional updates to Horse Fork.

Mattingly plans to add a restroom facility and an enclosed picnic in near proximity to the park.

“It’s part of this Court’s commitment to providing those kinds of facilities in our parks,” Mattingly said.
