The Brescia men’s basketball program has added much needed size to the 2021 recruiting class.

Keelen Allen, 6-6 power forward from Homestead High School in Wisconsin and Carrieun Mathisa 6-7 forward from South Pauling High School in Georgia have committed to the Bearcats and Head Coach Brian Skortz

Allen joins incoming freshmen Jay Hinson and Peter Fuchs in this year’s recruiting class all from the State of Wisconsin.

Allen is a physical player that can also face you up and score in different ways. Allen possesses a good mid-range jumper and the strength to finish through contact.

“Keelen will bring us some much needed rebounding and a physical pressence inside.  He runs the floor well and is a good passer out of the post.  He has a nice touch from 15 and plays hard on both ends of the floor.  We are very happy to see him here at BU in the fall.” Skortz said.

Keelen commented on his decision to attend Brescia University.

“I decided to choose Brescia University because it was the best fit for me,” he said. “I believe in a faith-based family bond and Brescia has a close net campus and community. I believe in being challenged and Brescia has staff and coaches that want you to succeed. As equally important, I believe in learning and developing to become the best version of myself on and off the court and hands down Brescia gives the foundation and motivation to achieve this.”

Mathis is best described as an athletic forward that can block shots, be an effective slasher, can knock down the 3 & defend multiple positions.

“I really like his versatility on both ends of the court.  He can defend 1-5 and really does a great job in transition.  His best basketball is still ahead for him,” Skortz said. “He has the drive to get better every day and loves to compete.”

“I would like to thank God for continuing to bless me and my family throughout the years and giving me the talent and ability to play basketball,” Mathis said. “Second, I’d like to give thanks to my family and coaching staff that have always pushed me to be a better man and player on and off the court, thank you to all of my teammates and friends that have been there to see the best out of me and believe in me. Finally, I’d like to thank all of the coaches I’ve met during the recruitment process and that have reached out to me and took time to recruit me but I’ve made my decision to further my education with Brescia University. Go Bearcats!”
