Newburgh, IN – Local author Kathryn Woodward, who writes children’s book under the pen name Jemima Neal, is planning to donate books to a local classroom every time she publishes a new title.
Last month, she donated 15 books for children at Hager Preschool in Owensboro.
“As the former Health Services Manager for Audubon Area Head Start, I have really learned to appreciate the complexities and importance of Early Childhood Education. Encouraging parents to read to their children is a big part of Head Start’s mission. I was really excited to give a copy of “The Easter Bunny’s Vacation” to each child in the classroom to take home,” she said.
Additionally, she donated Spanish copies for on-site classrooms.
“The Spanish book was translated by a native speaker in Spain. There are currently over 52 million Spanish speakers in the United States, and I believe it is important to make reading accessible for children who are not only primary Spanish speakers, but who are learning Spanish as a second language,” she said.
This week, to celebrate the launch of her new book, “The Garden Party”, she was able to donate books for each child in a classroom at Old North Preschool in Evansville. The classroom’s Jumpstart Teacher, Jessica Minor, is a former student of Kathryn’s when Kathryn taught at Ivy Tech Community College.
After teaching at Ivy Tech for 10 years and then working for Head Start, Kathryn is now spending her time writing and enjoying her family. Her next children’s book, “Delilah is a Tiger”, will be out in May.

Author bio for Jemima Neal:
Jemima Neal is a Midwestern author who loves timeless stories with themes of confidence, creativity, and wild imagination. Although masquerading as a businesswoman or college professor is in her resume, she has found the gig of mentoring, loving, and writing for young children the most rewarding.
Her passions include reading (of course!), traveling to exotic places, baking, and making a mess, annoying her children with silly rhymes, collecting art, and enjoying the great outdoors. When Jemima was a little girl, the highlight of her week was the long walk to the library with her father to pick out a book. Listening with rapt attention while her father read to her instilled a lifelong appreciation for childrenʼs literature and illustrations.
