Daviess County Clerk Leslie McCarty has had a passion for tour guiding and history for years. She’s using that passion to help promote Owensboro by offering virtual tours via a new online platform that also features some major cities nationwide.

Currently, LetsGoVirtually.com offers virtual tours of cities including San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego, Laguna Beach, Minneapolis and Owensboro.

For $4.99, virtual visitors can join McCarty as she guides tourists through some of Owensboro’s most popular sites for 30 minutes at a time.

“I’ve always loved being a tour guide,” McCarty said. “When I was younger and lived in Hardin County I gave tours, and the Owensboro Convention & Visitors Bureau has let me play tour guide. I just love tourism and history. This kind of combines both.”

The tours will begin at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum and go down Veterans Boulevard, making stops at local restaurants, Smothers Park and its award-winning playground, and the RiverPark Center. She said she’ll wrap the tour up at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History.

The platform is designed to be interactive, so tourists can ask questions along the way, McCarty said.

“We want to make them feel like they’re there with you,” she said. “I’m hoping that, even though the coronavirus is still going on, this is a safe way for people to virtually travel.”

McCarty said she was “super excited” about the opportunity to show Owensboro off to the rest of the world.

“I’m a transplant myself, and I love Owensboro,” she said. “I love all the stuff this city has to offer.”
