The lakes at Panther Creek and Yellow Creek will be stocked with catfish this week and more trout later this month by the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife as part of the “Fishing in the Neighborhoods” program.

Those interested in fishing out of the county lakes will need a fishing license, according to County Parks & Recreation Director Ross Leigh. There are also regulations as to how many fish each person can catch, though there’s no limit on the number of times a person can go fishing.

“You have to have separate buckets [to store fish] per person,” Leigh added. “The bodies of water are monitored by game wardens. There’s a fine associated with [fishing without a license].”

According to Leigh, both parks will receive around 600 fish at a time. The lakes at both parks  will be stocked with catfish two to three times throughout the summer months.

“To know it’s stocked, it gives you confidence that you may get a catch,” Leigh said. “The best time to fish is the day after it’s stocked.”

Leigh said Daviess County Parks & Recreation will make an announcement via it’s Facebook page once the two lakes have been stocked with trout, though he expected it would happen very soon.

All county parks and lakes will be open until 11 p.m. beginning April 1, when the summer season officially takes off.
