Hoping to find new ways to better connect with the community, the Owensboro Human Relations Commission is planning a photo-sharing campaign to represent the city’s diversity. The campaign will take place via social media and a prize will be offered for the winning photo.

With the COVID-19 pandemic causing most of OHRC’s events to be postponed or cancelled, said the social media campaign will serve as a way to interact with the community.

“We will have the photos in a slideshow on our Facebook page,” Hill said. “We found that a lot of people don’t know what we do, and a lot of people haven’t heard of us.”

Hill said a swag bag will be offered as a prize for the winning photo, and other board members offered to donate their own money toward gift certificates and other incentives to increase participation.

Flyers and an infographic are currently being designed for the photo contest, Hill said.

Hill presented the idea of creating a collage of all the submitted photos so the community could see an example of Owensboro’s rich diversity.

“We can share specific posts [featuring] the winners,” she said. “It will also give us a chance to encourage people to visit our actual website as well.”
