A structure fire left two people injured Saturday evening on Westwood Ave. According to officials with the Owensboro Fire Department, a mobile home was fully engulfed by flames, leaving the property a total loss by the time first responders put the fire out.

The incident occurred in the 2500 block of Westwood Avenue around 4:30 p.m.

OFD Battalion Chief Steve Leonard said firefighters arrived to find the home’s attached front porch fully engulfed in flames.

Leonard said two individuals received burns caused by the fire and were transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by AMR Ambulance.

“We are trying to determine the origin of the fire,” Leonard said. “We think it started on the attached front porch but we will do a full investigation. We are talking to neighbors who were nearby.”

OFD put the fire out very quickly, Leonard noted, but said structure fires in older mobile homes often spread quickly. That was the case with Saturday’s fire, he said.

First responders were able to safely extinguish the fire and assist the injured individuals with medical aid, he added.

OFD, AMR, Owensboro Police Department and Owensboro Municipal Utilities responded to the scene.
