Continuing a 50-plus year commitment to education, the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra celebrated Arts in Education Week by kicking off their 2020-2021 season as they began rehearsals.
String Orchestra conductor Wade Wiggins and Youth Orchestra Conductor Tom Stites are excited to work on music that challenges the students and brings out the best in each talented musician.
“The connectivity that occurs in music rehearsal and performance is important to our students,” said Gwyn Payne, CEO of the Owensboro Symphony. “With long-term commitments to their instruments and their friends, we are heartened that 41 of 42 eligible students have returned from last season. This speaks volumes about the dedication of our students and parents and the quality of work that is invested in the Youth Orchestras.”
The Youth Orchestras attract outstanding students from across the region, with students traveling from southern Indiana as well as seven Kentucky public schools and many private and homeschooled students.
There have been guidelines established that address the current COVID-19 pandemic and follow the “Healthy at Work” plan for Kentucky. All participants are required to follow these social distancing guidelines in order to ensure safety.
The longstanding traditions of the OSYO continue with plans to perform on stage at RiverPark Center and First Christian Church. All plans are subject to adjustment to a digital format if regulations require, but the Youth Orchestras celebrated Arts in Education Week by making music together again.
