Aleris employee dies in fatal work accident Sunday

UPDATE — Hancock County Coroner David Gibson confirmed the employee who died was 35-year-old Jared Taul, of Tell City, Ind.

An autopsy has been performed and results should be available in two to four weeks,

An Aleris employee died Sunday in a fatal accident at the Lewisport manufacturing facility, according to the company. All operations at the impacted area of the facility have temporarily ceased.

The Hancock County Coroner’s Office responded to the plant following the incident. The employee’s name has not yet been released.

The company released the following statement:

On Sunday, August 23, an Aleris employee suffered a fatal accident while working at the company’s Lewisport, Kentucky manufacturing facility. We extend our deepest sympathies to the employee’s family, friends and colleagues and are working closely with local authorities to identify the cause of the accident. At this time, we are withholding the employee’s name until all of the individual’s family have been notified. We temporarily ceased all operations at the impacted area and are making grief counseling available to our employees during this difficult time.
