Brescia University graduate Ellada Hadjisavva brought her food truck with traditional Greek cuisine to Owensboro over the weekend, and she plans to make at least one more stop later this month.

Her Evansville-based food truck called “Acropolis Express KY 54″ will be back May 16 after a successful first trip to Owensboro.

“The response has been extremely gratifying,” Hadjisavva said. “We were very surprised with people coming out and trying our food. People came and they overwhelmingly were asking questions about the food.”

She said more than 100 people tried lamb, beef and chicken gyros, Greek salad, falafel, ready meals and baklava made by her mother.

Hadjisavva also owns Acropolis Restaurant & Catering in Evansville. She said her Owensboro connections keep asking her when she’ll consider opening up a restaurant here.

“Who knows? After this situation (COVID-19) if an expansion is in our future, why not,” she said. “Owensboro likes Greek food.”

Hadjisavva said in the midst of a pandemic, it has been fun being able to provide people with food in a new way.

“Since people cannot come to our building,” she said, “we take our food out to the community and the neighborhood.”
