The southbound lane of KY 81 near KY 554 will be blocked for at least an hour after the Daviess County Fire Department extinguished a residential fire early Monday morning.

“A passerby going down Highway 81 saw smoke coming out of the residence and stopped, made sure nobody was home and called in,” said DCFD Chief Jeremy Smith.

About 25 firefighters responded to the 7900 block of KY 81 at approximately 8:25 a.m Monday.

Volunteer fire departments from Moseleyville and Airport-Sorgho also responded. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and state police were on scene to direct traffic while crews worked to extinguish the fire in about 20 minutes, Smith said.

The fire happened in the back of the home near a bathroom area and the residence was unoccupied, Smith said. No one was injured.

“Getting the smoke out of residence was the hardest part, getting all that out and doing some overhaul,” Smith said. “The home has sustained heavy fire damage.”
