Small businesses at the Lake Forest Town Center have organized a drive-thru weekend market for families to shop without getting out of their cars.

The “Drive-Thru Market Extravaganza” will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4399 Springhill Drive on Kentucky 54, and the event is tentatively scheduled for at least four consecutive Saturdays.

Kevin Trunnell and his wife — owners of Trunnell’s Farm Market — spearheaded the idea and collaborated with other shop owners during a group meeting Tuesday.

“It (will) get people out of the house, gives them something to do, plus provides them a way to safely shop from their vehicle,” Trunnell said.

There will be shopping booths, live music and other forms of entertainment for children to enjoy from the car.

The individual businesses will put items in the trunk of people’s cars as they drive through the complex. Customers can place food orders at the center’s restaurants at the entrance of the drive-thru, the pick it up at the exit.

Saturday’s drive-thru market will be trial-and-error for the organizers, said Deanna Cecil, owner of Peacocks and Pearls.

“This first weekend is kind of up in the air as far as how it’s going to go, and I’m sure it’s going to take a little bit to catch on, but over time it will grow and will have more things,” Cecil said. “We’re hoping to make it a fun, festive thing and (make people) want to come back to not only support us, but for them to enjoy it as well.”

– Bushay’s Men’s Boutique and Home Decor
