The Owensboro Police Department investigated a suspicious circumstances complaint on Wednesday in the 3800 block of Brentwood Drive where an individual with the Kentucky Office of the State Fire Marshal was in the area
checking for working smoke detectors. Residents were concerned the individual may be impersonating a Fire official to gain entry into the residence.

Through investigation, OPD was able to confirm this was legitimate activity and that this individual was in fact an official with the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Although this instance was legitimate, we ask all residents to be alert and to verify credentials for anyone going door to door before conducting business or allowing anyone to enter your residence.

It is recommended you contact a business directly to confirm they have a representative in the area and call dispatch at 270-687-8888 if you suspect they are not legitimate.
