Man arrested after stealing car, attempting to strangle woman

Saturday afternoon Daviess County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to 30 Bon Harbor Hills where a caller stated a male subject, later identified as Scott Edward Garrard, 42, forced his way into her vehicle at the Marathon Station at W. 2nd Street and Castlen Street and demanded she start driving and then demanded money from her.

The victim told deputies Garrard then began to choke her while she as driving. She pulled into the Shell Station at 30 Bon Harbor Hills where she grabbed her purse and jumped out of the vehicle and ran inside the store yelling for the clerk to call police. She stated he came in the store after her but the clerk ordered him out. Garrard jumped into the victim’s car and fled the area.

The car was located and recovered on Sunday and Garrard was arrested at a residence in east Daviess County. He was charged with unlawful imprisonment, strangulation 2nd degree, robbery 1st degree and theft by unlawful taking (auto).
