With more than 20 food booths and 100 craft booths, there was something for everyone at Sunday’s Apple Festival at Reid’s Orchard. With temperatures in the upper-70s and the sun shining all day, the event was packed all weekend.
With more than 25,000 people visiting over the weekend, many vendors were happy with their sales.
Tina Maloney, who was working The Village Rocks booth, creates and sells painted rocks and bricks. She is a loyal vendor at the Apple Festival and said she has had a booth at the event every year since 2005.
“This place has been packed,” she said. “The weather is perfect. It’s been so crowded out here, but it’s been the perfect weekend.”
She said before noon Saturday she had already sold out of most of her items.
The festival has been named as one of the Top 10 festivals in Kentucky and one of the Top 20 festivals in the southwestern states in the month of October, according to the orchard’s website.
Kaitlyn Chaffin and her fiancé Morgan Horn were just two of the hundreds of visitors to Reid’s Orchard on Sunday for the last day of the festival.
“We like coming for the food,” Chaffin said.
While she said her favorite thing was the fried apples and apple sundae, Horn said he preferred the Apollo High School FFA booth’s bean soup and cornbread.
“We got some food, looked at all the booths, got some more food, and now we’re going to check out the petting zoo,” Chaffin said.
The Reidland play area, which included a corn maze, apple barrel slides, a corn crib and a bounce pad, was a hit for children of all ages. There was a line all day Sunday of kids eagerly waiting to play. Other main attractions for the younger ones were the petting zoo, horse and pony rides and carnival rides.
The two-day festival ended at 6 p.m. Sunday.
