Roger was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 3, 1943 to the late Harold and Garneda Anderson. He grew up in Somerset and graduated from Somerset High School in 1962 and Western Kentucky University in 1966. Roger served as Planning Director in Hopkinsville from 1967 – 1972. In 1972 he moved to Owensboro and served as Planning Director for the Metropolitan Planning Commission until his retirement in 2000.
After his retirement, he devoted his life to his children and grandchildren. He worked tirelessly to ensure they had all they needed to fulfill their hopes and dreams. He was an avid sports fan of everything that his grandchildren participated in. He enjoyed entertaining and cooking for his family and spending time on Lake Cumberland. He was the rock that everyone leaned on and he will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Carol Roberts Anderson; children, Roger Anderson, Jr. of Los Angeles, Elizabeth Anderson of Owensboro, Julie Anderson (Blaine) of Frankfort, and Sarah Katherine Skinner (Hal) of Lexington; grandchildren, Elizabeth Brooke Parker (Jeron), Treyson Luke Anderson (Brittany), Joseph Taylor Richard (Lani), Drew Katherine Knight, Madeline Wood Hauser, Zachary Glenn Waldrop, and Frankie Anderson Knight; great-grandchildren, Gracy Beth, Lily Kate, and Maddy Brooke Parker, and Brayden, Triston, and Madison Anderson.
Visitation will be held at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro, KY on Friday July 5 from 5-8 PM. A private family funeral and burial will be held at a later date. Roger requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to The Boy Scouts of America, PO Box 152079, Irving, TX 75015-2079.
