Jeff “J.D.” Davis, a proud United States Navy veteran, adventure seeker and lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, passed away on April 20, 2025, at the age of 62.
Growing up in the redwood covered hills of California, Jeff embodied the spirit of adventure, loyalty, and quiet strength that defined his life’s journey. He served his country with distinction in the United States Navy, retiring after 22 years, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. While serving, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology and a Master of Arts in Management. A submariner at heart, Jeff was a proud member of the Silent Service, a brotherhood beneath the waves, an identity that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Following his retirement from active duty, Jeff continued to serve the Navy and his country for another 17 years at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division. Known for his sharp technical mind, steady leadership, and no-nonsense approach to problem-solving, Jeff co-authored technical documents that ensured his knowledge and experience would live on.
His truest freedom was found on two wheels. A passionate rider and proud member of the Silent Service Motorcycle Association, Jeff spent countless hours on the open road—even earning the Iron Butt Award for riding 1,000 miles in 24 hours—sharing the journey with fellow veterans and friends who understood the unique bond of the ride. Whether leading a group or cruising with his beloved wife, Beth, Jeff loved the wind in his face. On his bike, he found peace, purpose, and joy. Jeff is a member of the American Legion Riders Post #9 and co-founded the SSMA Wahoo Chapter, where he was proudly serving as President.
Jeff was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Beth Davis; children Ginnifer Davis and Cody Davis, stepchildren Monica (Nick) Laster, Morgan Cecil and Emilee Cecil and numerous grandchildren; as well as a wide circle of friends, shipmates, and riding brothers who will miss his grit, humor, and unwavering loyalty. He is preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Jeff leaves behind a legacy of courage, commitment, and camaraderie that lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Following, Jeff will have his last ride to Owensboro Memorial Gardens for full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeff’s name to a veterans’ organization or motorcycle safety charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post #9 after the service.
Fair winds, following seas and open roads, Chief. Ride free.
