One of Owensboro’s long-time springtime traditions returns Saturday as the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden hosts its annual Plant & Vendor Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will feature a wide variety of plants for sale, including perennials, native plants, herbs, and vegetable starters such as tomatoes and peppers grown by members of the Green River Area Master Gardeners Association.
More than 20 local vendors will be on site selling garden-related items, including handmade wreaths, tools, fresh flowers, local honey, and natural oil products. One vendor will also provide tool and scissor sharpening services, allowing guests to drop off items and shop while they wait.
“This sale is a major fundraiser for the Botanical Garden, and it’s exciting to see the hundreds of people who come out, shop at the sale, then enjoy free admission to the Garden that day,” said Laurna Strehl, executive director of the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden. “It wouldn’t be possible without the Green River Area Master Gardeners. They’re deeply involved — from growing and donating plants to volunteering during the event.”
In addition to shopping, visitors can get expert advice from horticulturalists and Master Gardeners, who will be available to answer questions and assist with plant selections.
Admission to the event and the garden is free, and food will be available for purchase from The Spot Coffee Truck and Curbside Kitchenette.
The sale will take place rain or shine on the grounds of the garden at 2731 West Second Street in Owensboro. Additional parking will be available at the Thompson Berry Soccer Field.
