CENTRAL CITY – Daniel Scott Neal, 54, of Central City, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Scott’s transition occurred around noon at Nortons Audubon Hospital in Louisville following a lengthy illness concerning his heart. Scott was born on September 27, 1970 in Madisonville, KY.

Scott made a profession of faith and followed in believer’s baptism at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in 1980. He was a graduate of Central City High School in 1988 and went on to earn multiple bachelor’s degrees at Western Kentucky University. Scott continued his education and earned a Master’s degree.

Upon achieving most of his goals in education Scott began a Teaching Career at Todd County High School and ended that Career at Hancock County High School where he was an English teacher and head of the English Department as well as the Cross Country and Track Coach. Scott was awarded Teacher of the Year and Coach of the Year on two occasions. He also coached student athletes to achieve two State Championships.

Scott loved to read and was a published writer, having written multiple short stories and poems. He also loved music. Although Scott had achieved many accomplishments, he would tell you his greatest achievement is his son Aidan, whom he loved with all his heart and soul.

Scott was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Eck and Francis Neal, maternal grandparents Jim and Naomi Miller and his father Daniel Neal.

Scott is survived by his son, Aidan Neal, Mother and Step Father Deborah and Larry Covington; First Cousin and Best Friend Melissa and Kenny Bruce; Aunt Patricia Rickard and multiple cousins.

In the final hours leading up to his passing, Scott gave the following message:

To the Track and Cross Country Boosters, I appreciated each and every one of my student athletes and their parents. Those times were some of the best times of my life. I am blessed to have known each and every one of you. I appreciated all the personal support from all of the Hancock County High School Cross Country and Track boosters.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 11AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Noah Bruch officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens at a later date. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8PM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
