A 24-year-old man has been charged after a man was hospitalized following a shooting early Sunday morning, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 3100 block of Burlew Boulevard, where they located multiple shell casings outside of the apartments, according to a release from OPD.

Authorities said the suspected shooter, later identified as Kevin Tran, was found in a nearby apartment and taken into custody. Detectives with OPD’s Criminal Investigations Division charged Tran with first-degree assault for the shooting.

Around the same time, Owensboro Health Regional Hospital notified OPD that a 25-year-old man had arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound, the release says. The victim was taken into surgery and is in recovery, but his current condition was not known as of Sunday morning, according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing.
