Daviess County residents can still pick up sandbags at two locations today and tomorrow ahead of potential flooding. Sand is available at Panther Creek Park and the Crittenden Street entrance of Mulzer’s Downtown Yard. Residents should bring a shovel and be prepared to fill their own bags.

The sites will be open until 3:30 p.m. today or while supplies last. A second distribution is scheduled for April 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the same locations.

Officials ask residents to use the Panther Creek site if traffic backs up on Crittenden Street to help reduce congestion on 2nd Street in downtown Owensboro.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Daviess County through Sunday morning, forecasting that historic rainfall totals — potentially up to a foot or even more in some areas — could lead to widespread flash flooding, rising rivers, and dangerous travel conditions.
