Windy Hollow Speedway will roar to life with high-speed action this spring as the American Sprint Car Series makes its debut at the historic dirt track on May 8-9.

The event is part of a packed weekend in Owensboro, with the nationally touring sprint car series joining the city’s BBQ & Barrels festival taking place downtown that weekend.

An open practice session is scheduled for May 8, with the main event on May 9 featuring the ASCS as the headliner. Support classes will include the bomber, Crown Victoria, and mini stock divisions in a rare Friday night race at a track known for its traditional Sunday shows.

“These sprint cars run some of the biggest tracks in the nation and put on a show like never before seen at Windy Hollow Speedway. We want people to come enjoy some racing on Friday and then check out the BBQ downtown on Saturday,” said Windy Hollow Speedway promoter Trevor Hutchins.

Founded in 1992, the American Sprint Car Series is the largest sprint car sanctioning body in the country. The Windy Hollow stop is part of a more than 90-race national tour that kicks off April 4 in Mississippi and wraps up November 15 at Creek County Speedway in Oklahoma.

Visit Owensboro is partnering with the Speedway to welcome the series and its fans to the region.

“We’re proud to support motorsports and look forward to showcasing our community’s hospitality,” said Teresa Jones, Destination Sales for Visit Owensboro.
