Owensboro Dance Theatre’s In Concert production at the Owensboro RiverPark Center will now feature two performances on Sunday, March 16, after Saturday night’s show was canceled due to minor storm-related damage at the venue.

Originally set for Saturday at 7 p.m., the performance has been rescheduled to Sunday at 7 p.m. A previously scheduled 3 p.m. matinee will still take place as planned. Tickets purchased for the canceled Saturday show will be honored at Sunday’s evening performance.

The change follows severe storms and heavy rainfall that caused minor damage and accessibility issues at the RiverPark Center.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciate your understanding,” RiverPark officials said in a public statement. “This decision was made with safety and accessibility as our top priorities.”

ODT echoed that sentiment, adding, “Tonight’s show at RiverPark Center is cancelled. Due to recent severe storms and heavy rainfall, the Owensboro Dance Theatre’s performance of In Concert featuring Willy Wonka and the Golden Ticket, originally scheduled for this evening at 7 p.m., has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 16, at 7 p.m.”

The RiverPark Center also announced that the balcony will remain closed and the elevator will be out of service. Guests with balcony tickets will be relocated to available seating, and those needing accessible accommodations are encouraged to plan ahead.

“This vibrant production offers something for everyone,” said Joy Johnson with ODT. “It’s a showcase of local talent, creative storytelling, and the magic of live dance.”

Presented in two acts, In Concert blends classical and contemporary dance with theatrical storytelling. Act I features ODT’s pre-professional company members, including solos by graduating seniors Maddie Burshears, Charley Hicks, and Annie Iracane. It also includes a tap number by Ashley Ayer-Martin and Boggess, a tribute piece titled In Memoriam by Maegan McHale Hobbs, and a special performance by members of the Green River Area Down Syndrome Association. The act concludes with Volt, a high-energy work choreographed by Jon Lehrer of the Jon Lehrer Dance Company.

Act II reimagines the whimsical world of Willy Wonka & The Golden Ticket, complete with flying sequences, dazzling digital effects, vibrant costumes, and a cast of more than 200 local performers. Johnson said the segment offers a fresh take on familiar characters and songs, highlighted by the unforgettable flying Wonkavator.

ODT also hosted three school-day performances earlier in the week, welcoming students from across the tri-state area.

Sponsors for this year’s production include Domtar Hawesville Paper Mill, First United Bank and Trust Company, Daviess County Teachers Federal Credit Union, the Michael E. Horn Family Foundation Inc., and Advantage Eye Care.

“Whether you’re a longtime supporter or attending for the first time, this show promises to be a highlight of the season,” Johnson said.
