Four people are facing child endangerment and drug-related charges after meth and marijuana were found in a home where a 2-month-old baby was present, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a release, DCSO Special Investigations Unit detectives and the Daviess County Detention Center K9 unit executed a search warrant on Friday at a home in the 2500 block of West 5th Street as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected drug activity.

Authorities said that as detectives arrived to execute the search warrant, two subjects were discovered sitting in a car in the driveway smoking marijuana.

Upon securing the residence, detectives located marijuana in multiple locations throughout the home, methamphetamine, digital scales, smoking pipes, marijuana grinders, syringes, and other paraphernalia commonly associated with possession and trafficking of illegal narcotics, the release says.

“During the search of the residence, a 2-month-old baby was present, and it was evident that the amount of drugs and their locations in the home created an unsafe environment for the child,” the release says.

Detectives contacted the Department of Community Based Services, which responded and removed the child, according to DCSO.

Lisa G. Cook, 47; Whitney C. Casey, 38; and David A. Hancock, 44 — all of the 2500 block of West 5th Street — were each charged with trafficking in marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and endangering the welfare of a minor. Martin R. Cook, 47, of the 2400 block of West 7th Street, was charged with trafficking in marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lisa and Martin Cook were both additionally charged with first-degree possession of meth.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are possible, authorities said.
