It was an impressive start to the season for the Hancock County boy’s tennis team, earning back-to-back 5-0 wins against Cloverport and Union County. In the season opener on Thursday, the duo of Lucas Anderson and Tyce Boling set the tone for the rest of the match.
The Lady Hornets also won their opener against Cloverport 4-0, behind Ella Chappell and Kylie Bowlds winning their respective matches 8-2 and 8-1.
“It was a good start to the season,” Hancock County head coach Dan Hopkins said after the match. “They were a bit tight and everyone struggled with their serves. Ella was the start today.”
Yesterday against Union County, Anderson and Van Reska won their respective singles matches, while everything else was a forfeit.
For the Lady Hornets, they lost a tight one 2-3. Chappell improved to 2-0 in singles and their top doubles team of Audree Morris and Bowlds emerged victorious.
“We’re feeling more comfortable with each match, especially serve and ground strokes,” Hopkins said. “They have been a little tight which is to be expected, but the schedule gets harder next week. Hopefully we will be more comfortable after the first two matches. I am happy Lucas and Ella have both started off 2-0.”
