Sue Poynter Bethel, born March 11th, 1934, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the morning of February 24th, 2025 at the ripe age of 90 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Verne Bethel, who was the love of her life of 70 years; and her parents, JT and Emma Poynter; and two sisters, Margaret Ellis Sipes and Marbrey Hedges.
Sue was a lifetime member of First Christian Church in Owensboro KY where she was very actively involved and served as the secretary for many years. You could always find her there, never sitting still, helping out with luncheons/dinners & whatever else was needed. She cared for her husband and family the most. Always cooking and baking up new recipes, hosting all of the annual family gatherings and making sure to complete the daily crossword puzzle, even if she had to look up a clue in her extensive logbook.
Sue is survived by her six children; Donna Sheehan, Jody Emerson (Charles), Jay Bethel (Lois), Karla Ochoa (Eddie), Wayne Bethel (Carolyn) and Ellen Hawn; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two siblings, Betty Curl and Jerry Poynter; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren that she loved and adored as well.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at First Christian Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
