Owensboro Dance Theatre (ODT) is bringing back its high-energy Dance Battle Extravaganza on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the RiverPark Center. The event promises a night of professional dance performances, community competitions, and fundraising for ODT’s local programs.
The event, supported by the Marilyn & William Young Foundation, will feature a performance by Giordano Dance Chicago (GDC), a powerful first act that organizers said will set the tone for an unforgettable evening. GDC is also engaging with the community during their visit, including teaching students at two local schools and hosting two master classes for dancers of intermediate and advanced levels.
Following the GDC performance, the community’s most talented dancers will compete in a Dance Battle featuring eight local groups:
- Boulware Mission
- Commonwealth Connections
- Dancing Aces
- Estes Elementary
- GRADSA
- Owensboro High School
- Sutton Elementary
- The Vault Dance Studio
The 2024 Grand Champion, Owensboro Middle School, will also perform. Audience members will have the chance to vote for their favorite group, with the winner taking home a $1,000 grand prize. Other awards include Judges’ Favorite ($750) and Round Winners ($100 each), with judges Freddie Bourne, Jeff Fritz, and Pam Smith-Wright determining the Judges’ Favorite.
“This event is more than just a competition,” said Jaysie Beth Royal with ODT. “It’s a fundraiser to support ODT’s community programs, including outreach to underserved schools, in-school performances, inclusive dance opportunities for individuals with disabilities, scholarships for young dancers, and free performances for thousands of students.”
Tickets are available here, with prices starting at $12.50.
