Owensboro Catholic’s Waryn Ebelhar has signed with Centre College to continue his football and academic career. A standout on the gridiron, Ebelhar was one of the Aces’ top receivers, hauling in 14 touchdowns and 57 catches this year. He also led the team in receiving yards with 1,189 and was instrumental in Owensboro Catholic reaching back-to-back state championship appearances and accumulating a 28-2 record over that span.

Planning to study economics and finance, Ebelhar acknowledged he chose Centre due to both the football and academic programs.

“Their coaches are great,” Ebelhar said. “I went there on an overnight and their players are so nice and welcoming. So is the campus and school in general. Academics are a big thing for me, and I love the school.”

Earlier this year, Centre’s coach reached out to Ebelhar and visited him at Owensboro Catholic. A few weeks later Ebelhar went on a gameday visit to Centre and then two weeks ago he went back for an overnight visit.

While speaking with his future teammates, Ebelhar said the schedule stood out to him.

“They are really big on players having good academics and are really big on sleep,” Ebelhar said. “I just love the schedule.”

During the process, Ebelhar also heard from Georgetown, Campbellsville, Lindsey Wilson, and Ave Wilson. Wanting to stay in Kentucky, Ebelhar said Centre was always his first choice.

At the end of his junior season, Ebelhar saw an influx of interest from multiple schools – leading him to realize his dream was in sight. Wanting to make his goal of playing at the collegiate goal a reality, he started to spend more time in the weight room and focused on his route running.

A multi-sport athlete, Ebelhar is also a starter on the basketball team – averaging 12,4 points, while averaging 36.1% from deep. With the added pressure of choosing his future home off his shoulders, the sharpshooter has his eyes on one goal.

“I want to win the region,” Ebelhar said. “I think we have the team to do it, so I’d love to win the region.”
