Owensboro Catholic’s Vince Carrico has signed with Hillsdale College to continue his football and academic career. A four-year standout, Carrico has been one of the heartbeats of the Aces’ defense. Playing linebacker, the senior was a major catalyst for the team making back-to-back state championship appearances, with OCHS finishing 28-2 in that span.
Carrico stated that Hillsdale was the best opportunity for him due to their academics and conservative values. It also helps that his older brother is on the roster.
“I remember when we lost in the state championship in 2023, it was really sad because I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to play with him again,” Carrico said. “We had been teammates our entire lives and it means the world. He is a great motivator and a great player to be around and play with. I am looking forward to getting back to work with him.”
Carrico spoke with multiple schools throughout the entire process including Georgetown, Bennedict, Kentucky Wesleyan, and Center, but Hillsdale was always his first choice. He pointed out that the coaches and players were welcoming when he went on his visit.
It was always his goal to play collegiately, but it became apparent to him that his dream could become a reality during his freshmen year.
“Halfway through the season people told me how good my stats were, and I realized I was one of the top linebackers in the state,” Carrico said.
A multi-sport athlete, Carrico is currently in the midst of his final year of basketball. He has helped the Aces make two straight region championship game appearances and acknowledged how his decision has freed him from the extra pressure.
“Knowing where I am going is so relieving,” Carrico said. “I can just focus on the best I can in basketball without having to worry about my future in football.”
At Hillsdale, Carrico will be studying biochemistry with an eye on becoming a dentist.
