Local transportation providers are seeking community input on public transit services in the region as they develop a new plan to assess and address the needs of local citizens. Officials said they want to ensure the transportation system is accessible, efficient, and equitable for everyone in the region.
A public meeting for input on the Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan is scheduled for 10 a.m. on February 12 in the GRITS Training Room at 222 Saint Elizabeth Street in Owensboro.
“We believe that the best way to improve transportation services is through collaboration and active community involvement,” said Brandon Harley, CEO of Audubon Area Community Services. “Community feedback is essential in understanding the real challenges our citizens face when it comes to getting where they need to go. We are committed to ensuring that all voices are heard, and that the solutions we develop truly reflect the needs of the people we serve.”
All human service agencies, transportation providers, and concerned citizens are encouraged to attend the meeting.
Harley said that all feedback will be carefully reviewed, and potential funding sources will be explored.
“Where possible, the identified needs will inform transit grant applications for Fiscal Year 2026,” a release from AACS said. “However, it is important to note that while the input will be considered, submitting a request does not guarantee funding or new services.”
Those who are unable to attend the meeting can complete a survey to help document transportation needs across the region. For questions about the public input process, or to submit written comments or take the survey, contact Dan Lanham at 270-686-1651 or 1-800-816-3511.
