Sandra Powell, 66, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born August 1, 1958 in Owensboro to the late Sherman and Ressia Sanders Lawrence. Sandra was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church, Sunbeam’s, GA’s, and Brownies. She took dancing even as an adult at Lila Jean School of Dance. Sandra was a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, Acteen director and WMU Director.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Etta Mae Lawrence and Stella Sanders Kinley; uncles Wilbert Lawrence and Roy Hodges; aunts, Jean and Bessie Lawrence, and Mable Hodges; beloved cousins, William Hodges, Pam Lawrence Howard and Larry Lawrence; brother-in-law, Bill Ryan; and a nephew, Michael Ryan.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Eric Powell; sister, Phyllis Ryan; niece, Keli Ryan; best friends, Jim and Tracy Mills and their two children who claimed to be hers, Sarah (Jackie) Vincent and Josh (Natalie) Mills; and several cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Ridgewood Baptist Church. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
