Gary Wayne Postlewaite, 73, passed away peacefully and went to be with our Lord on January 22, 2025. Born to George and Marilyn Postlewaite, Gary was a lifelong resident of Owensboro, KY. He was a devoted father and Papaw—who loved his sons and grandsons above all else—as well as a beloved son and brother. He also had a great group of friends, and was a friend to many in kind. He was presently a member at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with many prior years spent serving as a deacon at Masonville Baptist Church.
A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Gary had a successful career as an architect, retiring from the state of Kentucky in 2014. His retirement freed him up to spend time on his real passion: building and restoring cars. He could most often be found in his garage tinkering with his latest find, with his favorite tunes of the 1960s playing on the speakers, or attending car shows, always on the hunt for inspiration for a new project.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Postlewaite, and his elder son, Kerry Postlewaite.
He is survived by his mother Marilyn Postlewaite; son Kyle (Jaleena) Postlewaite; sisters Brenda (Skippy) Ewan, Vickie (Billy) Strobel, and Lisa (Gary) Emmick; grandsons Dash, Brik and Ezra Postlewaite; and many nieces and nephews who could always count on their Uncle Gary to tell it to them straight.
A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, February 1st, at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until 2:00PM, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Gary’s memory can be made to the International Association of Firefighters Foundation (IAFF).
