Owensboro Public Schools is taking a significant step forward in student healthcare by partnering with the Audubon Area Community Care Clinic (AACCC) to introduce Tytocare, an innovative telehealth technology. The program aims to provide students with convenient, on-demand access to healthcare without leaving school to minimize disruptions to their education.
Tytocare’s telehealth devices allow licensed healthcare providers to perform remote examinations and consultations. The technology includes tools to assess heart rate, lung sounds, throat, ears, and skin, enabling students to receive diagnoses and treatment plans for common ailments such as sore throats, ear infections, rashes, and colds.
“We are excited to bring Tytocare to Owensboro Public Schools,” said Samantha Taylor-Kaai, clinic program director for AACCC. “This technology is a game-changer for families in our community, providing accessible healthcare solutions that save time, reduce barriers to care, and prioritize the health of our children. This partnership is another step toward creating healthier, more supportive environments for Owensboro’s youth.”
The program, designed to complement existing primary care services, also connects students without a primary care provider to AACCC. Services offered include treatment for minor illnesses, immunizations, and annual wellness visits. The program accepts all insurance types, and uninsured children can access care through a sliding fee scale, ensuring inclusivity for all families.
“Keeping students healthy is essential for academic success,” said Dr. Wendy Duvall, superintendent of Owensboro Public Schools. “This partnership with AACCC and the integration of Tytocare technology allows us to create an environment where students can be seen at school for minor health issues, keeping them in school and allowing them to thrive both in and out of the classroom.”
The initiative addresses several barriers to healthcare access, such as transportation challenges, financial constraints, and scheduling conflicts. It also supports working parents by reducing the need for time off work to address their children’s medical needs.
