Owensboro Catholic won an important City-County game against Owensboro, while Trinity (Whitesville) lost to Edmonson County.
Owensboro Catholic 85, Owensboro 72
Trailing by nine points, the Aces rode an impressive second quarter to power past Owensboro 85-72. Luke Beickman scored 18 of his game-high 37 points in the second half, while Dremail Carothers added 15 points. Solly Smith (14) and Waryn Ebelhar (12) both finished in double-digits.
Keaton Hughes scored 32 points, while Will Hume hit four threes to go along with his 19 points for the Red Devils. Michael Acton (9), Kade Arnold (6), and Keylin Payton (6) rounded out the teams scoring.
Edmonson County 57, Trinity (Whitesville) 40
Unable to get much to fall consistently on the offensive end, Trinity lost to Edmonson County 57-40. Hayden Aull led the team in scoring with eight points, while Connor Hatfield added seven points. Harrison Barnett, Will Hernandez, and Ian Roby each finished with six points.
“Tonight was an ugly game,” Trinity (Whitesville) head coach Nathan West said. “We started off strong, but struggled in the second half. We missed a ton of wide open shots and that sent us into a tailspin. We have to be more mature and not let makes and misses impact how we play. We have to figure it out and it has been a rough post-Christmas break.”
