Multiple agencies are still working an accident scene in the eastbound lanes of the Wendell Ford Expressway (commonly known as the bypass) between Frederica Street and KY 231. The blockage is expected to last several hours, according to multiple agencies.

According to DCSO, the initial collision on the eastbound lanes involved a state highway crew that was filling potholes and was rear-ended by an oncoming passenger car. A semi truck encountered the initial crash and lost control, then turned over and lost its load of steel ingots, officials said.

“These ingots are very heavy and will require special equipment to load them back onto a new semi trailer,” a statement from DCSO reads.

The semi truck driver was the only injured person. He was transported to the hospital for possible injuries, according to DCSO.

The westbound lanes of the bypass are open.
