Kim’s Diner will begin a two-week trial run of serving plate lunches for dinner starting Monday. The local diner will extend its hours until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday during the trial period to meet customer demand for home-cooked plate lunches in the evenings.

Owner Kim Roberson said the decision was influenced by community feedback after the Cadillac closed due to a recent fire

“A lot of their regulars started coming here, and they’ve been asking us to serve plate lunches in the evenings,” Roberson said. “We already do really well on Friday nights with our all-you-can-eat catfish and frog legs, so we’re giving this a try.”

The expanded dinner plate lunch menu will feature customer favorites such as meatloaf, roast beef, country-fried steak, pork tenderloins, catfish, and salmon patties, with additional rotating options including pork chops and cheeseburger casserole. Each plate lunch will include one meat, three sides, and a choice of bread for $8.99, with drinks sold separately.

Breakfast will continue to be served all day, and the full menu, including “fresh, never-frozen burgers,” will be available during the expanded hours.

Roberson’s daughter, Sabrina, will work as the server during the evening shift while Roberson manages the kitchen.

“She’s a big part of this restaurant and loves being here,” Roberson said. “We have such great customers, and I’m hoping this trial goes well so we can keep offering dinner plate lunches permanently.”

Roberson emphasized the importance of supporting small businesses and thanked the community for their continued support.

Kim’s Diner is located at 1212 East 18th Street in Owensboro.

The diner remains open seven days a week, with the extended dinner hours limited to weekdays during the trial run.
