Elizabeth “Betty” Doyn Wells

Elizabeth “Betty” Doyn Wells, 97, of Owensboro, passed away on December 27, 2024, at Carmel Home. She was born in Paducah, KY, on July 8, 1927, to the late James Elmer and Mary Doyn Carrico Blakeney.

Betty retired from Dr. Neil Padgett’s Office after working for over 20 years as a nurse. She was a member of Immaculate Parish, and, in her earlier years, Saint Martin’s Choir, and The Homemaker’s Club.

In her spare time, Betty enjoyed playing cards, square dancing with MerryMakers Dance Club, sewing, crocheting, music, puzzles, Spinner, and traveling with friends. She valued her time spent watching ball games with her children, participating as a 4-H leader, and being surrounded by family at the Blakeney-Carrico family reunions.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Earl Newman, and her siblings, Jim Blakeney, Martha Baumgarten, Bill Blakeney, and Julia Howard.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Pat Daugherty (Garland Parker), Jane Peveler (the late Dwain), Allen Wells, Ann Shelton (Billy), and Greg Wells (Sue); 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; and her siblings, Kaye Wethington and John Blakeney (Margot).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Immaculate Parish, with Father John Vaughan and Father Ray Clark officiating. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at Carmel Home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of charitable donations to Immaculate Respond Capital Campaign at 2516 Christie Place, Owensboro, KY 42301
