Owensboro Symphony presenting annual ‘Home for the Holidays’ this Saturday

A limited number of tickets remain available for the Owensboro Symphony’s annual “Home for the Holidays” concert this Saturday. The holiday program will feature some traditional favorites and fresh new works.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at the RiverPark Center. Tickets start at $48 and are available at 270-684-0661, OwensboroSymphony.org, the RiverPark Center Box Office at 101 Daviess Street, or Ticketmaster.

“Create lasting memories with this holiday tradition,” the Symphony said in a release. “Tony-nominated singer Liz Callaway joins Troy Quinn and the Owensboro Symphony, along with the Owensboro Symphony Chorus and the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra to light up the stage and fill your heart with the joyous spirit of the holiday season.”

Concert attendees are encouraged to join Quinn in Cannon Hall from 6:15 p.m. for a “Behind the Music” pre-concert conversation about the performance. “Behind the Music” is designed to enhance the concert experience and provide insights into the music and music-makers performing in the program. 

This is the second in a five-concert series this season for the Symphony. Remaining performances include:

January 25
The Symphony says: The show begins with Beethoven’s powerful and inspiring Egmont Overture. Prepare to be amazed by the exceptional talents of Thomas Hooten, one of the world’s most renowned classical trumpet players, as he takes the stage to perform Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto. The concert continues with Haydn’s captivating Symphony 88 and finally concludes with the brilliant Variations on a Theme of Joseph Haydn by Brahms.

Celtic Celebration
March 1
The Symphony says: Prepare to be captivated by a truly dazzling performance by Orla Fallon, as she weaves magic with her harp and soulful vocals, filling the air with the quintessence of Irish music. Whelan’s Cloudsong from Riverdance, Grainger’s lively and energetic Molly on the Shore, Cowell’s Flirtatious Jig, Vaughan Williams’ beautiful and moving Rhosymedre from Three Preludes, and Anderson’s Irish Suite.

Cosmic Worlds
April 19
The Symphony says: 3-2-1 blast off! Join us for a cosmic adventure with John William’s music from E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and Waxman’s A Place in the Sun Suite featuring saxophone legend, Kenneth Radnosfsky. The season finale includes Holst’s The Planets and promises to launch the Owensboro Symphony into an exciting 60th Season.
