Robert “Gumby” Earl Anderson, Jr.

Robert “Gumby” Earl Anderson, Jr., 68, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born October 18, 1956, in Fort Campbell to Robert Anderson, Sr. and Bertha Holland Anderson. Bob was a truck driver for over thirty years and served in the Marines.

Bob was a member of First Baptist Church for many years but also attended Masonville Baptist Church. He loved his wife, Rita, family, friends, grandkids, and great-grandkids so much. He enjoyed being a jokester and nitpicking, playing cards, boating, Kentucky basketball, and watching old movies.

Along with his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brother, David Anderson; sisters, Joyce Mohler, Candy Anderson, great-granddaughter, Harper Vickers, and grandmother, Mellissia Beverly Anderson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rita Anderson of 46 years; sisters, Patricia Weaver, Gayle Albury, Lois Williams (Jerry), brothers, John Anderson (Jo), Erie Anderson, Barry Hagan; children, Tim Anderson, Melanie Phelps (Shawn), and Melissa Padgett (Everett); ten grandkids, Noah Anderson, Elijah Anderson (Brionna), Kelsey Walker (Hunter), Brooklyn Phelps (Austin), Madilyn Phelps, Emma Phelps (Brayden), Brent Worthington, Brody Worthington, Kamryn Combs and Anna Skaggs of Owensboro; 6 great-grandchildren who he loved dearly, Ezra, Paisley, Warner, Breann, Hendrix, and Hadley; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon, Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory, with Benny Phelps officiating. Burial will follow in Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday, from noon to 6:00 pm, and Thursday from 10:00 am to noon at the funeral home.
