The Whitesville Lions Club Christmas Parade and tree lighting will take place on December 7. This year’s parade promises to feature approximately 15 floats and numerous participants from local organizations, schools, and scout groups.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m., departing from Whitesville Lumber on KY 764 and traveling to KY 54 before ending at the Whitesville Senior Citizens Center adjacent to the Community Park.
Whitesville Parade Chair Sandy Fitzgerald said the community plays a significant role in making the event special.
“The community always enjoys this tradition,” he said. “The schools and scouts build floats, and we always get great participation from local organizations. That community involvement is what keeps it going after all these years.”
The parade has been a longstanding tradition in Whitesville since the mid-1970s. In addition to local floats, Santa Claus, vintage cars, and the Daviess County High School ROTC unit will add to the festive atmosphere. Fitzgerald said the event regularly draws several spectators.
The festivities don’t end with the parade. The annual tree lighting ceremony will take place later that evening at 6 p.m. at Whitesville Community Park, with St. Mary of the Woods Catholic School and Whitesville Elementary School students performing at the event.
Spots are still available for those interested in participating in the parade. Contact Fitzgerald at 303-981-3611 for more information.
Fitzgerald has chaired the parade for nearly 15 years and highlighted the community’s pride in the event.
“It’s the people of Whitesville and the surrounding areas that make this parade special,” Fitzgerald said. “It’s really a celebration of our community coming together.”
