Les Westerfield, a lifelong devotee to the thrill of speed and the roar of an engine, passed away at his home on November 20, 2024. He was born January 10, 1957 in Sumter, South Carolina to Gaylord Martin Westerfield and Emily Jewell Westerfield. Les found his true calling on the racetrack, dedicating countless hours to the rules and regulations of the Nascar circuit. His love for racing and old trucks extended beyond the track, as he was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with his boys. Les was a family man, loved by his wife, Taryn, his boys, Chris and John, and his grandchildren. His wisdom, determination, and advice will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gaylord Martin Westerfield; and a stepbrother, Greg.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Taryn Westerfield; two sons, Chris Westerfield and John Westerfield (Amber); mother, Emily Westerfield; three grandchildren, Kelsey, Corey, and Ava; and a sister, Tonya Westerfield.
A celebration of Les’ life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation is from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
Though he may no longer be physically present on the track or in the garage, his spirit will forever remain a part of them.
