The Owensboro-Daviess County Christmas Parade is set for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The official, multi-camera live stream of the event will be hosted exclusively on the Owensboro Times Facebook page, with commentary from Jane Head and Chad Benefield. Here’s what else to know, including what streets will be closed, where to park, and the float lineup featuring more than 100 entries.
About the live stream
Watch the stream live on the Owensboro Times Facebook page. OT has partnered with the Christmas Parade Committee, the presenting sponsor, for the production of the stream. We’ll have multiple cameras to ensure we capture all the action.
Additionally, longtime parade committee member Jane Head and WBKR radio personality Chad Benefield will provide on-camera commentary throughout the stream.
The video will remain available to watch later on our Facebook page and on our website.
Street closures/parking
Starting at noon on Saturday and lasting until late that evening, 2nd Street will be closed from Greyhound Drive (near the former Daviess County Middle School) to Walnut Street (just past the Convention Center. Within that closure, several side streets connecting 2nd and 3rd streets will also be closed.
Both downtown parking garages (located on Daviess Street and Locust Street) will remain open. Parking will be available along other streets that remain open.
About the parade
The parade theme this year is “Vintage Christmas.” The parade will begin at the corner of 2nd and Pearl streets and continues all the way to Locust Street.
The grand marshal for the 2024 parade is Brian Smith, who will be riding in his own 1930 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan, the same one he drove in the Great Race from Owensboro to New England last summer. Navigator Scott Howard will be riding alongside him again in the classic car.
The committee also named Girls Inc. as an honorary Grand Marshal. The parade association also chose a “Hometown Hero” to honor, selecting Jailer Art Maglinger, who was recently named the Kentucky Jailer of the Year.
While the City of Owensboro helps with some aspects of the parade, the event is actually put on by the Parade Association, which is a nonprofit. The Association has a board and utilizes volunteers to host the parade.
