Argie Mae “Mamaw” Stanley

Argie Mae “Mamaw” Stanley, gained her final owl wings on November 15, 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee. Born in Smithers, West Virginia on October 21, 1965 and raised in Owensboro, Kentucky, Argie was a roaring beacon of love and strength to all who knew her.

Argie was preceded in death by her father, Bill Stanley; her mother, Katherine Stanley; and her dearly missed daughter, April Stanley. She leaves behind her daughter, Dyana Stanley Thompson (Nathan) and her treasured grandchildren, Damian Thompson, Michael Newton, Ella Thompson, Gaia Thompson, and Daisy Thompson. Additionally, she is survived by her adopted daughter, Simone DeWitt; stepson, Austin Wood; step-grandsons, Nick and Chris Wood, and an immeasurable number of people she chose as her family.

Argie was not just a mother and grandmother, she was a sister, aunt, and friend. Her kindness, caring nature, accepting heart, resounding voice, and compassion touched the lives of many. She was a dominant force in her family, loving fiercely and unconditionally, especially her grandchildren, whom she proudly declared to be her everything.

Her dedication extended beyond her family; she served for eight years with Cub Scout Pack 273 Great Meadows District, working her way to Assistant Cubmaster, Den Leader, and Day Camp Director. Along the way, she received multiple awards including Buckskin, President, Silver Beaver, and District Award of Merits. She became a Unit Commissioner, enabling her to receive her Bachelors of Science in Commissioners Service at Commissioners College. Along with her multiple duties, she was also a proud member of the Wood Badge Lincoln Heritage Council 2055. There, she achieved the highest scouting honor by receiving her badge and being beaded. Argie loved volunteering for numerous causes with a special passion for Child Abuse prevention awareness. Argie served for 11 years with the Community Collaboration for Children as a parent representative. During that time, she was part of the statewide parent advisory council where her unique crafting ability always shone through and left a lasting impression everywhere she went.

When she wasn’t spending time with her family and friends, leading a Cub Scout meeting, or attending an event to spread awareness, she was crafting, gardening, or playing games on her phone. Argie had a vibrant spirit that radiated through her passions. Whether it was using the Cricut, diamond painting, or creating beautiful decorations, her creativity was boundless. Gardening brought her immense joy and tranquility. She was an inspiration to many in only ways Argie could be.

In her final act of generosity, she became an organ donor, ensuring that her spirit of giving continues on. Argie “Mamaw” Stanley will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her unwavering love, compassion, personalized crafts, and the countless lives she touched.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
