
Regina “Gena” Goodman, age 67 of Cecilia, KY passed away on her birthday, November 17, 2024 at Baptist Health Hardin. She was born in Elizabethtown, KY on November 17, 1957, daughter of the late Eddie and Bertha Brown Peters. She retired from the Hardin County School System after 27 years of service as a school cafeteria manager, where she was loved by the many students she served. Gena was an active member of Open Valley United Missionary Baptist Church, a special place that she loved so much. Her first love and reason for being was to serve The Lord, which she did in so many aspects of her life. As a young girl, at the age of ten, she was saved and her journey began. To describe Gena, was to say that she did and loved everything. She was “Mama” to so many people, whether it be family or friends. She took care of everybody and cared for many children in the community. Gena was an excellent cook and made the best candy. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her prized rosebushes. Gena was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and attended many games.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Hansell Peters and her infant sister Violet Peters.
Gena is survived by Damon, her husband of 50 years.
Two children: Melinda Appleby (Wesley) of Constantine, KY and Darren Goodman (Amber) of Munfordville, KY
Three grandsons who were her pride and joy: Clay, Brady and Jase Goodman.
Four sisters: Bonnie Lucas of Cecilia, KY; Alice Elliott of Cecilia, KY; Iona Waddell (Garry) of Elizabethtown, KY and Emily Emery (Ricky) of Eastview, KY
One brother: Wendell Peters of Cecilia, KY
Her brother and sisters-in-law: Kendell and Debbie Goodman and Cheryl Goodman
Gena also leaves behind an army of people who loved her which include many nieces, nephews and her church family.
Funeral services will be held at Open Valley United Missionary Baptist Church in Cecilia, KY on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11 AM with burial in the church cemetery under the direction of Trent-Dowell Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday after 11 AM and Friday after 8 AM. All times are central.
