Patsy Holder Morris, a native of Hancock County and long-time resident of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, at the age of 82. During her final days, she was surrounded by the love and support of her family and friends. Born to Estil and Pauline Holder of Hawesville, Kentucky. Patsy graduated from Hawesville High School with the class of 1960.
Patsy embraced her roles as a devoted mother and homemaker, and she took great joy in tending to her beautiful garden and flowers on the farm. Her love for community shone through her involvement in various county committees, including the Farm Bureau and Southern States. She especially cherished her many years as Secretary of the Hancock County Fair Board, a role she eagerly looked forward to each year.
In November 1985, Patsy met the love of her life, Jim Morris, and they were married in May 1986 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Patsy was a devout Christian who found comfort and guidance in Bible scripture. Though her health prevented her from attending church regularly in her later years, her faith remained a cornerstone of her life.
Patsy had a zest for the simple joys in life—browsing flea markets, enjoying picnics by the river, and curling up with Jim to watch an old western movie. Her cooking skills were legendary; she had a knack for creating delicious meals from whatever ingredients were on hand, and she generously shared her recipes with anyone who asked. Patsy was known for her gift of gab; she never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Her love for music stayed with her throughout her life, as she cherished playing the piano and singing.
One of Patsy’s most remarkable traits was her incredible, detailed memory. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion, a quality that was endearing to everyone who knew her. It was a gift that made those around her feel remembered and valued.
As a grandmother and great-grandmother, Patsy was incredibly proud of her family. She loved sharing stories about her grandchildren’s latest sports games, school achievements, and milestones, her eyes lighting up with joy each time.
Patsy was heartbroken by the passing of her beloved Jim in August 2024. She often spoke of longing to reunite with her “Rhett Butler,” and we take comfort in knowing he will be there to welcome her at heaven’s gates. Patsy leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and treasured memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
Patsy was predeceased by her greatest love, husband Jim Morris, her parents, precious grandson Andrew “Andy” Thompson, and sister Eva Roberts.
She is survived by her two children, Darryl Thompson (Melissa), and Rachelle Corwin (Bill). Three grandchildren, Lori Beth Wyatt, Cameron Sprigg (Jessica), Colin Corwin (Emily); four step-grandchildren, Amber Travis, Sarah Hinton, Curtis and CeCe Corwin; five great-grandchildren, Jackson Wyatt, Blake Wyatt, Graham Corwin, Ellie Sprigg, Rowan Sprigg; one step-great-grandchild, Levi Gillette; sister-in-law, Nancy Ratliff (Larry); niece, Saundra Snyder (Bob Kirk), nephew, Dennis Roberts (Melissa) and many loving and supportive friends.
