Owensboro’s Jamaican Yard Vibes – Owensboro’s only Caribbean and Jamaican restaurant – is hitting the road with a new food truck. Owners Dwayne and Shanetha Whyte say this addition will help them reach customers across the tri-state.
Jamaican Yard Vibes specializes in fresh Jamaican cuisine and looks forward to serving its jerk chicken, oxtail, curry shrimp, and other dishes at festivals, events, and business locations.
“A lot of our customers come from Evansville, Henderson, and even further out,” Dwayne said. “We’re already catering in these areas, and having a food truck will make it easier to bring our food to them directly.”
The Whytes began selling their homemade dishes from their home in 2019 before opening the brick-and-mortar at 2845 West Parrish Avenue in 2022. They are especially excited about the opportunity to showcase their food at local events, where Dwayne said the aromas often draw customers in from blocks away.
The food truck is set to debut on November 19 with a private event at Boardwalk Pipeline. Shanetha noted they’re still finalizing details for more public outings but aim to offer lunchtime options at various business locations in the coming weeks.
The brick-and-mortar location will remain open with its usual hours and continue to serve its signature menu, which includes Rasta pasta, fried festival bread, a variety of traditional Jamaican juices, and other staples.
“When people tell us how much they enjoy our food, it motivates us to keep going,” Dwayne said. “This food truck is a way for us to reach more people and make it easier for customers to experience authentic Jamaican flavors.”
