McClean County (6-3) used a dominant run game, scoring four rushing touchdowns in their 36-20 win over Trigg County (3-6) on Friday.
It took the Cougars only 34 seconds to take a 6-0 lead thanks to a Kamden Walters 45-yard rushing touchdown, but the two-point attempt was unsuccessful. Five minutes later, Trigg County tied the game 6-6 on the back of a 10-yard touchdown pass, but they also failed on the two-point attempt.
With 33 seconds remaining in the opening frame, the Cougars retook the lead 14-6 after Aden Bolden ran it in from 18 yards and then Ayden Rice scored the two-point attempt.
Trigg County tied the game with 1:50 left in the half after a touchdown pass and a successful two-point attempt. Unfazed, the Cougars ended the half with a 22-14 lead after Rice found Walters for 18 yards and a Bolden two-point attempt.
In the third quarter, the Cougars found the endzone two more times, with Bolden and Walters running it in from 5 and 45 yards out, to take a commanding 36-14 lead.
Trigg County responded a minute later with a touchdown pass to cut the lead to 36-20. Neither team scored for the remainder of the game.
Next Friday, McLean County hosts Marshall County in their regular season finale.
