Letter to the Editor

Some of our local races are non-partisan, however, I believe it is important that you know the party each candidate is affiliated with. So, here we go.

In the Owensboro race for mayor, the Republican candidate is Tom Watson, and the Democratic candidate is Pam Smith-Wright.

In the Owensboro City Commissioner race, you can choose to vote for up to four candidates. The Republican candidates are Jeff Sanford, Robert Morris, Curtis Maglinger, and Tyler Goad. The Democratic candidates are Bob Glenn and Sharon Nesmith. The Independent candidate is Rafe Buckner. Jim Ivey and Titus Willis are write-in candidates and are Republicans.

In the race for the Owensboro Public School Board, you can choose to vote for up to three candidates. The Republican candidates are Melissa Akemi and Kenny Riley. An Independent candidate is Leigh Rhoads Doyal. The Democratic candidates are Tyler Sagardoy and Jeremy Edge.

In the race for the Daviess County School Board, the candidates are elected by districts. Since District 5 is the only district with multiple candidates, I will only list that district. You can choose to vote for one of the candidates. Timothy Hicks is the Republican candidate. The Democratic candidate is Dale Stewart. John Pippin III did not list a party affiliation.

In the race for Whitesville City Commissioners, you can choose to vote for up to four candidates. The Republican candidates are Jackie Bickett, Shawn Crabtree, and Pam Morris. The Democratic candidates are Greg Beyke, Clarence Merritt, and Joseph Mattingly Jr.

There is so much at stake in this election and it is important for everyone to vote. The national and state elections are extremely important, but so are our local elections. As a reminder, if you choose to vote straight party, you must still select your choices for the local non-partisan races. Please do not take the local elections lightly. Find out about the candidates and make an educated vote! I am a Republican and I prefer most of the priorities and principles of the Republican Party. So, I am asking you, when in doubt, vote Republican!

I will close with a thought for my fellow Catholics! Just think what this country would be like if JUST ONE TIME, all the Catholics followed our Catholic Church’s Teachings, and VOTED PRO-LIFE!
