Susan Dowell Smiley, age 74 of Bewleyville, KY passed away October 17, 2024 at University Hospital in Louisville, KY. She was born in Hardinsburg, KY on November 30, 1949, daughter of the late Charlie C. and Thelma J. Bandy Dowell. Susie loved the Lord and was a long time member of the former Faith Community Church. Until she became ill, she loved working in her yard and garden, cooking for others and spending time with her family and friends. She was loved by many and most of them referred to her as “Momma Susie”, a name she cherished. Her capacity to love was boundless as she truly lived “Love one another as I have loved you”. Susie was a former floral designer and worked in several flower shops in Hardinsburg.
In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her stepfather Bob Pike and her beloved husband Gene Smiley.
Susie is survived by 2 children: Darren Smiley (Ronda) and Alicha Killion (Jason)
5 grandchildren: Dylon (Ashley), Garren (Alyssa), Lindsey (Joseph), Jessica (Dakota) and Mason
7 great grandchildren
1 brother: Kenneth Dowell
4 sisters-in-law: Joan, Shirley, Nancy, Lucy and their families
Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 11 AM with burial in the Bethel Cemetery near Bewleyville. Visitation will be held on Monday, 3:30 – 8 PM and Tuesday after 8 AM. All times are central.
